SHADOW OF MUD

SHADOW OF MUD is a theatre play, based on Luis Buñuel's novel My Last Sigh, produced by the drama studio ILI NE (David Belas, Vesna Stilinović, and Renata Kaurin), and the international art festival Sedam Dana Stvaranja 7DS (Seven Days of Creation), with an acting cast of David Belas, Vesna Stilinović, Šandor Slacki, Renata Kaurin and Hana Kunić.

Maya was the lead singer who co-wrote the finale operatic piece, which was accompanied by woodwind and string ensemble under the direction of Australian musical director Trevor Brown.

​

SHADOW OF MUD was performed inside the medieval Pazin Castle (Istria). 

MOTH and CATFISH

Maya was invited to create two different acts, 'Moth' and 'Catfish', in collaboration with the renowned Box Soho, directed by Bryn Harris Wathen and produced by Adam West. 
​
"Moth" was a contemporary operatic act featuring the Box Soho choreographers, dancers and Maya's live performance in a shape-shifting Moth-like creature. Maya composed the music and created the hand-made lace creature. The act became the closing number for the official Box Soho show. For "Catfish", Maya wrote the music, and Box Soho designed the scenography.

Bryn Harris Wathen has directed all shows for Box Soho for over 6 years and has worked as creative director for Strut & Fret Production House, curating shows for the world-famous ‘Victoria’ Spiegel Tent, Isaac Theatre Royal, to mention a few.

FRANCESCO MENDOLIA

Francesco Mendolia is an Italian wizard of drummer. He has played with Eurythmics, Jack Savoretti, and Ray Parker Junior among others. He is a resident drummer of the Incognito band with whom he tours extensively across the Globe.

 

Maya had the privilege of collaborating with Francesco on part of her solo album work after meeting him in London. Additionally, Francesco played the drums for Maya's solo show at the International Sarajevo Film Festival.

Film 'CONCETTO'

Ana Marija Marinov is a Croatian born photographer, filmmaker, producer, and environmental activist, working both in the commercial and art world. Her projects include hiking 100s of kilometres across Portugal and planting 1000 trees.

Ana Marija directed and shot film CONCETTO, which captured an improvisational piece by Maya Petrovna during her tour with "Love Songs from the Violent Paradise" solo show. The film was screened at the Seven Days of Creation Festival in Croatia and Berlin at the "Exist All Women Arts Show," curated by US artist Tiffany Graham. ​​​​​

LIAN LOKE

Lian Loke is a Sydney-based performance artist and academic, working across dance, costume, interactive kinetic, media and robotics. Lian collaborated as a scenographer and dancer on Maya's early solo shows in the mid-2000s. Since 2021, they have been collaborating on a film project currently in development.

STEVEN WILSON  

SONG OF I

Maya was invited to perform in Steven Wilson's music video for the song 'Song of I' where she portrayed multiple characters and also designed the costumes. The torrero-inspired headpiece was made by Paul Davis aka Bambi.

STEVEN WILSON is an English musician and record producer, a four-time Grammy nominee, twice with Porcupine Tree, with band Storm Corrosion, and as a soloist on one occasion. 

​

SONG OF I was directed and filmed by a Danish visual artist, photographer, and filmmaker LASSE HOILE, a groundbreaking visionary, and a long-time creator of Steven Wilson's, Porcupine Tree and Blackfield visuals.

BLOOD DEBTS

Album by Years of Denial

Years of Denial is a project formed by French music producer and DJ, Jerome Tcherneyan. The first album by Years of Denial titled "Blood Debts", was released in 2017 and is a three-year collaboration between Jerome producing beats and drones,  and Maya Petrovna who wrote and performed  vocals, and lyrics for the tracks "Hashima," "Purgatory," and "Here in the Gut."  The album was released digitally and on vinyl by Death & Leisure label, also known as Broken English Club. After the release of "Blood Debts," Maya returned her focus to solo and film composing work, and the Years of Denial project continued with new members.

METACHROMECRISIS   Exhibition 

Giacomo Benedetti is a surrealist painter from Tuscany. In the year 2014, Maya curated Giacomo's exhibition "Metachromecrisis" at the London Looking Glass Cocktail Club in Shoreditch. For the closing of his three-month-long exhibition, Maya and Giacomo produced a show where Maya wrote the music and created costumes inspired by the characters from Giacomo's paintings. Together, they recreated his paintings into theatrical sets, where Maya sang dressed as their characters. Maya and Giacomo have two projects in development covering art film, Giacomo's poetry and Maya's music. 

LAS DOS FRIDAS

Las Dos Fridas was a touring physical theatre and aerial tissue show directed and performed by Meiwah Williams. It pays tribute to the work and life of Frida Kahlo. Maya was invited as a guest performer and co-wrote the original music for the project's promotional film with Australian drummer and composer Ben Walsh.

CODA 

'Music for the eyes' show

Sydney Opera House

CODA is a renowned Australian art-rock band. They invited a collective of performance artists and musicians for their  'Music for the Eyes' show at the Sydney Opera House. Maya performed an operatic piece 'Pony on the Water' and a song 'Satie', written by Maya and violinist Naomi Radom, accompanied by the CODA's chamber orchestra. 

PONYCLUB MASSACRE

Maya was the vocalist and guitarist for the former two-piece band, the Ponyclub Massacre with noted Australian/Russian violinist and accordionist Naomi Radom (CODA). They opened for artists such as Hugo Race (a former member of Nick Cave's band), Howling Bells, Kaki King, and Zulya Nazipovna Kamalova.

 

Ponyclub Massacre made a self-titled album featuring drummer Tony Buck (The Necks), with Maya and Naomi playing a variety of instruments. The album was recorded and mixed at Sydney's Electric Avenue Studios by Phil Punch, and released in physical distribution only.

​

In addition, Naomi and Maya also performed with Ben Walsh and the Orkestra of the Underground for the live soundtrack for Fantastic Planet for Sydney Festival.​
